Fake Coins of India

Here by posting some of the FAKE Indian coins I have come across. This post is to warn the fellow coin collectors and coin enthusiasts to avoid spending money on these type of coins.

Note: Ebay is the biggest source of fake coins where these faceless sellers pass on these worth-less coins terming them as RARE. Buyers be aware!

Mysore – Tipu Sultan Gold Fanam (Fake):

This tiny piece of metal (not even gold) is being sold as RARE Tipu sultan gold fanam. Please check the peculiarity of the Date “1222” on the second image.

Mysore – Tipu Sultan Paisa (Fake):

This coin is being sold as RARE Tipu sultan paisa. This one is a very nice “Copy” of actual tipu sultan paisa. Again note the funny date “1212” and of-course the artificial aging of the coin.

Mysore – Tipu Sultan Paisa (Fake):

Another so called RARE Tipu sultan paisa. Another very good “Copy” of actual tipu sultan paisa. Another peculiar date “1222” and artificial aging of the coin are tale-tale signs.

See Few more Examples of Fake Mysore Paisa Coins in the name of Tipu Sultan Below,

Here are some Fake Mysore Double Paisa coins,

Mysore – 25 Cash (Fake):

This coin looks very much like a Krishna Raja Wodeyar’s 20 Cash coin (XX Cash) which is genuine. But this one is 25 Cash (XXV Cash) which is very rare. I am not sure if this a contemporary or modern fake, but for sure is fake.

Mysore – 40 Cash (Fake):

Mysore 40 Cash Fake

This coin is a modern replica of Krishna Raja Wodeyar’s 40 Cash coin (XJ Cash). Most likely a Cast copy.

British India – William IIII 1 Rupee 1835 (Fake):

This coin is a Cast fake. Details are very similar to actual coin but please pay attention to the grainy surface of the coin. Also these coins almost always should weight very close to actual weight of 11.66 grams.

British India – George V 8 Anna 1919 (Fake):

This coin is a clear fake. George V looked lot better than this, isn’t it? J

British India – George VI 1 Rupee 1939 (Fake):

This coin is either a Cast fake too. 1939 Rupee coin is VERY RARE, So obvious motive of some crooks to earn easy money. Details are very similar to actual coin but please pay attention to the grainy surface of the coin. Also these coins almost always should weight very close to actual weight of 11.66 grams. This is most likely a modern fake.
